PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Who woudn’t want to call the ocean his office? With the instructor development course the dream becomes reality! The instructor development course include two stages. The first is the assistant instructor course and the second is the open water scuba instructor, when attending both we call it the IDC. After completing your IDC you will be examined by a PADI examiner over a period of two days, this is called the Instructor Examination (I.E).

IDC Preparation

Maybe it has been some time since your Dive master training or you have not been active in assisting with classes. Perhaps you are just not entirely confident about your level of expertise. This two day program will alleviate those concerns and will thoroughly prepare you to enter the IDC with added confidence in academics and confined water skill demonstrations.

what you learn

  • We will review the five theory sections (physics, physiology, equipment, decompression and RDP, skills and environment), get you proficient with all PADI skills and introduce you to the PADI educational system.

  • Be a certified PADI Divemaster or equivalent.

Assistant Instructor

The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). You'll not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional but You'll also start learning the PADI System of diver education. You can act as an instructional scuba assistant and assume limited teaching responsibilities. We run this program over a period of four days.

what you learn

You build upon your abilities to organize and supervise scuba diving activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills. You will learn how to prepare and deliver a knowledge development, confined and open water presentations.

pre-requisites:

You must

  • Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or equivalent.
  • Have 60 logged dives that include experience in night, deep and navigation diving to participate in the Instructor Development Course. You’ll need 100 logged dives to take the Instructor Exams
  • Have CPR and First Aid training within the last 24 months.
  • Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
  • Be at lest 18 years old

Open Water Scuba Instructor

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the OWSI portion of the IDC, You'll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers. The OWSI takes 10 days including the EFRI.

what you learn

During the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program , you'll learn the complete PADI System of diver education, standards and procedures, effective academic teaching presentations, teaching in confined water, conducting open water training dives and additional related topics. This is the real deal!

PADI IDC cross-over

For instructors from other certifying agency’s who would like to join the PADI family. As a certified instructor you will need to attend the OWSI portion of the IDC, it is however highly recommended to follow the full IDC.
